Learning Acoustic Guitar
So you’re interested in learning acoustic guitar. Well luckily it’s a lot easier than you
might think. Ever looked at pages of sheet music and felt your eyes glazing over at the thought of having to learn
it. Well luckily you don’t have to.
There are literally thousands of people out there jamming away who can’t, and probably never will learn to read
sheet music. Why? Because they don’t need to, and that’s all thanks to something we call the CAGED
system.
When learning acoustic guitar we have the five basic open chord shapes C A G E and D get them nailed and then
using a “capo” you can transpose them up and down the keyboard and make up all the other chords – simples!!!
If you just get those five basic chords nailed you will be able to play an amazing number of songs and impress all
your friends. It’s then just a matter of building on that base with some of the slightly more advance stuff.
Now I don’t want to get complicated (and learning acoustic guitar really need not be complicated), but we have
major and minor chords don’t worry about this right now, but just remember that the major chords sound “happy while
the minor ones sound “sad”.
To improve you’re obviously going to have to put some practice in. It’s is how you spend your practice time that is
going to determine how quickly you make progress.
One of the fastest ways is to play along with lots of videos (especially those with split screen recordings where
you can see both hands at the same time). There are some really great courses
online today and if you want to learn to play acoustic guitar quickly and easily I’d highly
recommend you use one.

improvisation
Another great help is to become part an online forum where you can get your questions answered. Some of the
better online courses also have excellent forums with professional guitarists to answer your questions along with
others members who are doing the same course which can be a really great help. So don’t be shy to ask for advice
should you need it.
Remember to take it slow at first. If you’re really serious about learning acoustic guitar then mastering the
basics will stand you in good stead. Most newbie’s trying to learn guitar tend to play far too fast. Slow it down
to begin with, try half the speed and go for accuracy until it begins to become automatic.
You’ll also find that over time your fingers will become stronger making playing the chords cleanly easier for you.
You may also want to look at practicing some of the finger strength building exercises. Just a few minutes a day
can really help your progress.
So grab your guitar and make a start today, learning acoustic guitar is one of life’s real joys and such a
satisfying endevour so have fun with it.
I hope this has helped and good luck on your journey.
